It’s no surprise what time of year is the busiest for the lads in Harley Poe. You might have already read in Rue Morgue that Harley Poe will perform with Those Poor Bastards in Lafeyette on October 30th.

October 29th, Harley Poe will join Poopdeflex at the Brass Rail in Fort Wayne to welcome new Chain Smoking artist Alyosha Het and celebrate the release of his new CD, The Purgatourist.

Our friend John Commorato reading “Broadway & Jefferson” at a table we know well. (In the background, you might hear an artist we helped bring to Fort Wayne.)

Long live the Brass Rail!

Poodeflex will be taking his one man act to Minnesota.  On Friday, August 27th he will be at the White Stallion in St. Cloud.  Then, on Saturday, August 28th he will be playing at Palmer’s in Minneapolis.  Come check him out if you are in the area or feel like driving.

Whatzup’s Jon Schafer reviewed the Year of the Bastard.

From there YOTB barrels straight into the alcohol-fueled, full-frontal assault that has made The Staggerers a hugely popular attraction on the local music scene.

And The Examiner’s James Carlson gave Harley Poe’s Wretched Filthy Ugly a listen.

What makes the songs all the more listenable is that the lyrical content is approached with a devilish grin and an abundance of good humor…

The B-Sharps celebrated the release of their new CD last Saturday with also served as a farewell show while they band go their separate ways. David Burkart mixed footage of the show with a track off the new album:

Pictures from The B-Sharps’ and Poopdeflex’s performances can be found at Drew’s site here.

There have been a few recent reviews we should catch up on:

The Staggerers’ Year of the Bastard was reviewed by by the “Celtic Folk Punk And More” Blogzine and Sepiachord.

Harley Poe’s latest was reviewed by Whatzup

End Times Spasm Band’s second EP was reviewed by Sepiachord.

We hope you’ll forgive us if we fall behind on news. Between now at October, we have no less than five CDs coming out.

Thanks to everyone who came out to see The Two Man Gentlemen Band and End Times Friday night. We had a blast, and we hear End Times enjoyed breaking in that new stage.

Two Man will return October 10th with one of our favorites, The Hot Seats, and Pokey Lafarge and the South City Three, making their first Rail appearance. Here’s a taste of what to expect.

"On killer bee, bears frontman Gavin Wilkinson set out to make an album with melodies that stick in your head. He succeeded. his band has crafted an indie folk-pop gem that blends styles ranging from the mid-century styles of Johnny and June Carter Cash to Simon and Garfunkel, Roy Orbison to Frankie Lymon....the benefits of his musical education are evident on The Killer Bee Scare, with five catchy songs that linger in your mind. Along with Gard's show-stealing vocals, McManus becomes a musical tailor, weaving his bass through the melodies like thread, pulling all the elements together into a cohesive unit while also giving the songs a buoyant boost. Wilkinson ditches the somber mood that drove this story and replaces it with a lighter introspection on relationships and age. Finally, his male bandmates come together and drape the compositions with doo-wop harmonies, a perfect element to an already pleasurable listening experience." - Nuvo

"The Boulder Acoustic Society get to do anything they want, largely because they say so. And by anything I mean yodeling during a rockabilly song, launching into a pretty killer David Byrne impression, or doing, in their own words, a "minor key acoustic punk" version of 'Maggie's Farm.' They can get away with this rampant eclecticism because they can pull it off, and while they walk the fine line between grating and experimental, they walk it quite well."

"The Defibulators sing and yelp about drinking gasoline, crawdads, towed Toyotas, go-go trucks, grease, and cigarettes. They love dirty mics, a lo-fi ambiance, and a rootsy nostalgia perspective that not only encompasses vintage folk country but also a twangy rockabilly and vaudevillian air."
